ENCOUNTERING A COMMON PAST IN ASIA (ENCOMPASS) is an academic programme for Asian and Dutch students and junior researchers engaged in the history of Asia and Asian-European interaction. ENCOMPASS aims to explore a common past in social, economic and political relations through international cooperation in academic training and research. The educational programme is tied to the BA. MA and MPhil-programmes of the Department of History at the University of Leiden. The PhD and Postdoc research programmes are designed to explore the Dutch archival sources on Asia primarily in the Netherlands, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India.rn
