The geography of Dokdo
Dokdo is the easternmost territory of Korea and a valued part of Korea's cultural heritage. Dokdo has been very important geographically, historically and economically for Korea due to its abundant wildlife, rich ocean fishery, natural resources and beautiful scenic landscapes.rnrnFor years, the National Geographic Information Institute has collected geographical information and developed topographical maps of Dokdo. For the conservation of the natural environment and sustainable development of Dokdo, the Institute continues to update its databases and maps with the most current, accurate geographical information. As globalization and international exchanges accelerate, it is necessary to provide opportunities to learn about Dokdo not only to Korean people, but to the international community as well. To meet this need, the National Geographic Information Institute has published The Geography of Dokdo in both Korean and English. The book is based on geographical information as well as other academic and scientific findings concerning Dokdo's natural and historical characteristics. This book also focuses on the conservation of Dokdo's natural environment together with the survey and research.
