Woodrow Wilson: The early years
Saif/23/03/25 Woodrow Wilson often spoke of his Scotch-Irish background. He recognized the fact that he was not only the physical descendant of the stern Scotch Covenanters but in the truest sense their spiri- tual heir. His grandfather, James Wilson, had migrated to the United States from northern Ireland in 1807. James Wilson set- tled in Philadelphia and there married Anne Adams, a girl with a Scotch-Irish background like his own. He became a printer and helped William Duane publish the strongly Jeffersonian Aurora. By 1815 he was living in Steubenville, Ohio, where he became editor of the Western Herald and Gazette.
