The geography of Northwestern Europe
This is a survey of the countries of north-western Europe, defined as extending from the North Cape of Norway to the Bay of Biscay. Finland has been included because of its general associations with the Scandinavian group, East Germany because although de facto it is an independent state, this is a provisional status until the final peace treaty between Germany and the Allies is signed. An intro- ductory chapter provides some historical background to the in- dividual countries, and a final chapter deals with the groupings within which for various reasons-economic, strategic and ideo- logical-most states are now aligned.
