Emas, kafir dan maut
In the course of European contact with various Asian Societies in the 19th century many incidents were to occur as a result of the reaction of the local inhabitants towards the foreign intruders. One such episode involves two Frenchmen, L. Wallon and Guillaume, who came to Western Acheh in search of gold in 1880. They sought the assistance of the ruler of Teunom, Teuku Imum Muda, to venture into the interior but were met with a refusal as the latter did not wish to be held responsible for their fate. Consequently, filled with their own self-confidence and unimpressed by Teuku Imum's warnings, they left by boat for the interior in the company of several local men.
